Manifest That Psych Internship: 2025 Edition
In 2022 (I can’t recall the exact month), I scheduled a call with one of my relatives, who is a well-known organizational psychologist. The main purpose of this call was to gain a better understanding of the often-discussed "psychology internships." While I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the conversation now, I do know one thing - my motivation was somewhat diminished. Back then, I had convinced myself that I couldn’t pursue any internships at the age of 19 while still completing my BA degree in psychology.
Fast forward to three years later, and the current date is February 24th, 2025. I can proudly say that while working as a Mental Health Content Writer at the amazing startup “Zensible,” I have completed about five internships in the field of psychology and gained valuable experience from each of them. I’m not trying to prove anyone wrong, but I want to share that if I had this internship guide with me three years ago, my journey might have been different, for better or worse. Step 1: Find your niche/area of interest
For some of us, it may feel overwhelming, but making this small decision can save us a lot of time in the future when we choose our specializations.
You can choose from a variety of options, including Clinical, Counseling, Rehabilitation, Organizational, Sports, Forensic, Family, and Child Psychology amongst others.
One helpful way to discover your niche is to research, and explore different courses. Consider enrolling in electives offered at your university, taking extra courses outside of college, or interacting with your professors.
Step 2: Set goals/aims that you wish to achieve from your niche
When setting your goals, consider including topics you've always wanted to learn more about, skills that will help you stand out when applying for your master's program, certifications you aim to earn, and letters of recommendation you hope to receive from the institution you're applying to.
After writing down these objectives, you can set them aside and revisit them at the end of the internship to see how many you accomplished.
If you haven’t met many of your goals, you’ll know where to focus your efforts when applying for future internships.
Step 3: Google, Google, and Google some more
This is one of the most important steps in the process, and it is sometimes overlooked. Yes, it can be overwhelming, but trust me, it will all be worth it in the end.
Now that you have your list of objectives, you can choose where you want to intern. Consider factors such as location, feasibility, whether the internship is paid or unpaid, and the duration of the internship.
It can be frustrating to pay for an internship. However, there are ways to navigate this aspect as well. Remember when I mentioned that you can take courses outside of college?
These courses have several advantages. You only need to pay for a course that interests you, and you can learn from the comfort of your own home.

Step 4: Use Linkedin for your optimal usage
While Google can summarize many internship searches, LinkedIn is another valuable resource.
It allows you to connect with others who are looking for similar positions. By joining this networking platform, you can enable notifications for future internship opportunities.
One feature that I particularly love is the ability to keep track of every experience you participate in. For instance, if you start a new psychology internship, it serves as a fantastic boost to your self-worth. Plus, you can keep all of your experiences organized in one place, in case you forget any of them!
Step 5: Be patient, and be open to rejections
Some of the top-notch internships might take a while to respond, whether it’s through LinkedIn or Gmail.
However, it’s important to keep pushing forward and apply for as many internships as possible!
