What’s Your Number - Enneagram Types Part 2

This blog is a continuation from Part 1. If you haven’t read that, please give a quick glance over there, as it contains introduction to Enneagrams and explanation regarding Types One to Three.

Type Four – The Deep Diver – Luna Lovegoods

The Deep Divers are imaginative, extremely perceptive, and erratic individuals. Their need to stand out and be quirky drives them. They strive for something unique that sets them apart from the crowd to make up for the moments when they feel like something is lacking from them.

Among all the characters in Harry Potter, Luna stands out for her inventiveness and vitality. She is so direct that some mistake her for being insensitive, but in actuality, she is really sensitive. She has thoughts that make perfect sense to her but are absolutely perplexing to others. Dumbledore would undoubtedly admire Luna's unusually brilliant mind, even though there is not a known scene in which they meet.

What Fours lack in critical thinking, they make up for in emotional depth. The Fours will perform at their best when you put them in situations that need a lot of creative ideas or unconventional thinking.

Fours do not usually make snap decisions; instead, they rely on their intuition. They consider things carefully but make decisions based on their feelings rather than their thoughts.

Type Five – The Observer – Severus Snapes

The Observers are incredibly reserved, analytical, and seem to be emotionally aloof individuals. Their primary goal is to learn more about niche topics. They may not have as much energy to devote to relationships as they would like to devote to their quest of knowledge. As a result, they choose extremely carefully who they interact with.

Dumbledore was aware of Snape's insatiable curiosity as well as the fact that, when it comes to making decisions, he will be analytical rather than sentimental. Snape would evaluate the evidence carefully and reach the correct conclusion even if Dumbledore withheld certain information from him.

Fives may come across as untrusting of others because of their confidence only on facts. People sometimes mistake Fives for being aloof and distant, but they do not realise how difficult it is for the Fives to socialise even for brief periods of time, as such interactions will be emotionally taxing for them.

After weighing all the information, Fives tends to make highly objective and reasonable conclusions. They will find it extremely difficult to think through the emotional or social ramifications of their choices.

Type Six – The Loyalist – Neville Longbottoms

To stay faithful to their name, the Loyalists are devoted to the last drop. Driven by the urge to feel safe, Loyalists have a tendency to be quite devoted to the people they like. They are also worst case scenario thinkers.

Neville never abandoned Harry, not even in dire circumstances. Dumbledore anticipated Neville would play a significant role in Harry's friend group from the beginning since Neville would consider all the possible outcomes when Harry, Ron, and Hermione take unnecessary risks.

Sixes are the ones that keep the fanatics and dreamers grounded in any organisation. All they have to do is learn how to express their worries without depressing other people.

Sixes considers all possible outcomes before making a choice. Most of the time, they would go with the option that carries the least amount of risk in order to be safe.

Type Seven – The Adventurer – Ron Weasleys (or Freds or Georges)

In any group, the Adventurers are the lifeblood. They are lively, joyful, positive, upbeat, and sunny. They also radiate energy. Driven by a desire for happiness, they arrange exciting adventures and endeavours.

Ron struggles with commitment and hates monotony. Because Dumbledore was aware of this, he gave Ron the Deluminator so that he could locate Harry. Ron was literally a magician at chess because he could discern patterns where none existed.

Due to their propensity for distraction, it is best to assign Sevens to tasks that demand multitasking or even multiple projects.  They cannot do the same thing over and over again.

Sevens will generate several action plans when they make decisions. To come up with a solution, they have the capacity to process a large amount of information at once. They should take their time and consider all the options before making decisions because they have an impulsive nature.

Type Eight – The Challenger – Harry Potters

The Challengers are assertive, passionate, combative, and perhaps unduly direct. They are driven by the need to keep moving forward and project strength in order to avoid having to admit their own shortcomings to other people. Their energy and endurance are limitless.

Harry had the ability to make quick decisions and see them through to completion. Even at personal cost, he has a strong commitment to justice. Dumbledore was aware that Harry could unite people behind him with his unwavering will and self-assurance, once he made up his mind.

To prevent the Eights from going overboard, strict boundaries must be set. When working as a team, you should always be honest with an Eight. If they have any suspicions about a hidden agenda, they will drop you like it's hot!

An Eight will always consider making quick progress while making decisions. They cannot stand indecision and will even risk making a wrong decision than none at all. Similar to a Seven, an Eight should practise thinking things through before acting and knowing when to back down.

Type Nine – The Peacekeeper – Remus Lupins

Enneagram's sweethearts are the Peacekeepers. They are usually accommodating, kind, and easygoing. They have a clear understanding of other people's viewpoints. Their need to get along with everyone and stay out of trouble at all costs drives them.

Remus can be polite, kind, and get along with even the worst of students. Remus opted to leave the school rather than confront other parents who had voiced their complaints against him. Remus decided to play along with his friends' practical jokes even though he knew they were bad. Dumbledore brought Remus to school, because he knew Remus was the only one who could get along with Snape.

The Nines have a tendency to downplay their own achievements and sell themselves short. They believe that the views of others are far more powerful than their own. They ought to concentrate on identifying their strengths.

It should come as no surprise that Nines will select the option that receives the greatest support when making judgements. Just to make sure there is agreement, they will not think about whether that choice will make them successful or whether it is appropriate in the circumstances.

With any luck, this analogy has made it easier for you to comprehend and perhaps even relate some of your coworkers' superpowers and challenges.
