Managing Mental Health Like a Social Media App
*Dear user, good morning, until further notice, all of your social media apps (i.e. including instagram, snapchat, twitter, pinterest and linkedin) interface has been changed*.
Welcome to the new version of all these apps in the year 2025. In addition to doomscrolling on instagram or keeping streaks with your friends on snapchat, you would be using these apps for your “Mental Health wellbeing”. Apologies for the inconvenience caused, we hope you all understand our concern. To make you all go through the process, we have also taken care of your comfort and made a reliable guide on how you can further use these apps. Thank you for your time and patience.
1 Instagram —> Mindsgram
From today onwards, Instagram will be renamed “Mindsgram.” Although all the features of the app will remain the same, there will be extra content that will focus solely on your mental health. Here’s how it will work:
Daily Stories: Every morning and evening, Mindsgram will post self-affirmations and motivational quotes on your personal story. These will be curated based on your mood for the day and will only be visible to you.
Direct Messages (DMs): This feature will remain unchanged, but all negative and hateful messages will be blocked out to maintain peace and harmony among users. Additionally, you will be able to connect with a "First Responder" during a time of crisis.
Daily Posts: There will be a wide range of verified mental health tips and content among other posts. Efforts will be made to block any negative or false content regarding any topic.
Reels: There will be a block on reels from 2 PM to 5 PM, during which the reelswould not be functioning. Content creators will have the option to schedule their reels for later. Moreover, Mindsgram will shut down completely by 9 PM and will resume operation in the morning to avoid disrupting users' sleep patterns.
Instagram Notifications: In addition to the positive messages from your friends, there will be periodic check-ins regarding your mental health.
2 Snapchat —> Snapwell
On a similar note to instagram, even snapchat’s interface has been changed. But the features would be the same. We have also kept in mind the number of users of Snapchat, and accordingly accommodating them. The changes from now onwards would look like:
Snap Streak: As for the users who are aware of how this score works, we would be adding a little twist to it. On a daily basis, each user would be provided with different kinds of activities for their emotional regulation. This could consist of - (Journaling, meditating, breathing exercises, or anything that they prefer). They would need to take a snap of it, and send it to their peers and keep a “Snapwellness” score.
Snap Story: Similar to Instagram's feature, this also consists of personally curated self-affirmations and quotes for the individual depending on their moods.
Snap Lenses: In addition to offering daily contact lenses, there will be specialized lenses equipped with AI technology that can detect the user's current emotions. Based on this analysis, the lenses can connect the user to their nearest therapist or counselor, depending on the urgency of their needs.
4 Linkedin —> Healthin
Linkedin, also now called “Healthin” would no longer only be a platform for connecting with others, but also for seeking professional help and educating yourself about “Mental Health” and “Psychology”. And the new features would look something like this:
Connections: No changes would be made in this part.
Groups: In addition to your community groups, you will also have access to a verified "Mental Health Professional," which may include a psychiatrist, psychologist, or therapist. Depending on their availability and location, you can book individual, couple, or group therapy sessions within these groups.
Daily Posts: Due to the ongoing emphasis on "mental health" topics on LinkedIn, we will be posting at least one relevant article daily for every member. This initiative will provide LinkedIn members with an opportunity to share valuable insights with their peers.
Just imagine if this were a legitimate message sent to you, either in the past or potentially in the future. Would you still use social media apps the same way you do now? While having fun on social media is important, it's crucial to consider the impact these platforms have on us. So, the next time you open these apps, take a moment to check in with yourself! As these apps update frequently, we, as individuals, also need to evolve, upgrade, and prioritize our mental health. Lastly, if there are any app developers reading this blog post, I would love to hear your insights and comments! This could even inspire your next upcoming app idea. See you all in the next blog post, you wonderful human beings!
